Life will start anywhere it even has a remote chance. Do not compare yourself to a flower that has been chosen and nurtured in all the right soil. If you started from a less hospitable place, if you are more weathered, less beautiful, less patient, you are still loved. Your place is here, no matter who tries to uproot you.

@WeWereSeeds I wish I had pictures of the tomato plant that decided the best place to grow was in the crease of the concrete stairs of an old apartment building.

One of my roommates ate the single tomato it produced. She said it wasn't a good tomato, but it had gone to a great deal of effort to make it, so it only seemed right to acknowledge it.

@sashakovich that's such a beautiful story! Tomatoes are strangely the most common volunteer sprout I see randomly pop up in my climate. They can be real hearty! I remember a rather imposing parking lot tomato that had no business being where it was. Potatoes, too, can start from almost nothing.

@WeWereSeeds I definitely tossed most of my leftover tomatoes into the shrub next to my porch, hoping that they manage through the winter. I have my doubts but I am prepared to be pleasantly surprised. XD

@sashakovich I always like to think that even if seeds and compost don't take, they still nourish the roots that are there. 💚🌱
