about moon holiday

we're a community dedicated to amplifying the voices of marginalized individuals, eroding kyriarchal power structures, and building the best world(s) we can collectively imagine

this instance is loosely dedicated to speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, magical realism etc.) and firmly dedicated to social justice -- particularly it's about the intersection of the two. this instance is for imagining a universe which transcends imperial colonialism, racism, transphobia, and other ills of our contemporary society

if you are a creator of art/writing/film/games/etc dealing with these themes, moon holiday is for you. if you partake in media analysis discussing positive and problematic takes in art and fiction, moon holiday is for you. if you are a fan or if you just want a pleasant social experience, moon holiday is for you as well

there are no restrictions on what's appropriate to post here (except as outlined in the code of conduct below), so you can expect a lot of general internet whatever. this is not a super serious instance as you might guess

in addition to the general conduct guidelines below, moon holiday also asks members: please caption all images/video you post to public timelines. if you are unable to properly caption your images/video, please post them followers-only. we want the fediverse to be accessble to as many people as possible

Privacy Policy

The data you post here lives somewhere on the internet, to be honest i don't fully understand how all this works. moon holiday is hosted on masto.host and as such the data is subject to the masto.host privacy policy reviewable here: https://masto.host/privacy/

This is an ActivityPub federated server. This means that other people on other federated servers can find you, send you messages, etc. This also means that any information you put in posts, whether they are public or private, might end up "federated" -- basically, a copy of your post gets put on any server that reads your post.

If you want decent privacy (the info doesn't leave this server), the only way to do that is to set your account to private, only accept friend requests from other moon.holiday users, and only ever @ mention other moon.holiday users. Once you start talking to people on other servers, all bets are off. Any private message you send to someone on another server could be looked at by the admin of a different server. This is kind of like email: if you are on a private email server, and you send an unencrypted email to a gmail account, congrats, Google now has the content of that email. But also, you do this every day, so, hey. The internet!
